How can I determine value ofthe used items I intend to donate?

I really want to make a donation of used apparel/bedding/household items but I have no idea of how I should appraise them. I want to take full advantage of the tax deduction for my donation but I would not like to overestimate the value of it. What should I do?How can I determine value ofthe used items I intend to donate?
I have found that the prices at Salvation Army or Goodwill stores are about 15% of what similar items would sell for new. Unless you are giving enough clothing to take care of everybody in the orphanage, it won't make much of a dent in things. How can I determine value ofthe used items I intend to donate?
visit the Goodwill or Salvation Army outlet store and check prices there.
Yeah, your best bet is to go into a Salvation Army store, and see what they are selling similar items for. Then just appraise your items based on that.
half the amount you paid for them because they are used.

the article below may give you a better way of price value for your donations.
what they would sell for at a garage sale or thrift store.
